International Affairs

The international affairs area advises the Finance Ministry on topics related to trade policy, and international trade negotiations. It monitors customs and regulatory decisions and directly oversees negotiations related to financial services. In conjunction with the central bank, it also coordinates Chile’s relations with financial organizations such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and the International Monetary Fund, and participation in international economic forums such as the Organization for Cooperation and Economic Development (OECD) and the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), among others.

It is also responsible for representing the opinion of the Finance Ministry before different specialized courts, including those that dictate the application of anti-trust measures to defend markets (from dumping, subsidies and other measures), and before Congress regarding the realization of free trade agreements to avoid double taxation, among other issues.
