Chile publishes its third annual SLB Report
- This publication fulfills the commitments set forth in Chile’s Sustainability-Linked Bond Framework (SLB Framework), by reporting to investors on the progress of the indicators associated with the bonds issued up to the end of 2024.
Chile has published its third annual report on the performance and evolution of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) included in its Sustainability Linked Bond Framework. This report reaffirms Chile’s commitment to transparency and accountability by keeping investors informed on the latest developments related to SLB issuances.
The SLB issuances are part of the Sustainable Finance Strategy of the Ministry of Finance. Through these issuances, Chile became the first sovereign to access the SLB market.
The SLB Framework, published in 2022 and amended in June, 2023, contains the following KPIs and their corresponding Sustainability Performance Targets (SPTs):
KPI 1: Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions per year, measured in MtCO2eq:
a) Achieve GHG emissions of 95 MtCO2e by 2030.
b) Achieve a maximum of 1,100 MtCO2e between 2020 and 2030.
KPI 2: Non-Conventional Renewable Energy (NCRE) Generation, as the percentage generated in the National Electric System, measured in megawatt hours (MWh):
a) Achieve 50% electric generation derived from NCRE sources by 2028.
b) Achieve 60% electric generation derived from NCRE sources by 2032.
KPI 3: Women’s representation on the boards of directors at companies, measured as a percentage:
Achieve 40% of women’s representation on the board of directors at companies that report to the CMF (local regulator) by 2031.
Regarding the evolution of these KPIs, it is reported that:
• Country’s total GHG emissions reached 111.0 in 2022 (latest data available), resulting in cumulative emissions of 325.4 MtCO₂e for the 2020–2022 period.
• The share of NCRE generation reached 40.5% in 2024, continuing its upward trend from 37.6% in 2023.
• Women’s representation on the boards of directors at companies that report to the CMF rose to 22.1% in 2024, up from 15.9% in 2023.
